The Air Crew Europe Star was a awarded for service inthe second world war to

aircrew on operational flights over Europe from British bases.

Two months operational flying was required between 3 September 1939 and

5 June 1944 in order to qualify. The39-45must have been earned before commencing

qualifying service for the Air Crew Europe Star.

From 6 June 1944  operational flying over Europe qualified aircrew for the France

and Germany Star

British uniform regulations stipulated that neither the Atlantic star nor the France and Germany

star would be awarded to a recipient of the Air Crew Europe Star. Subsequent entitlement to the

Atlantic Star or the France and Germany Star was denoted by the award of the appropriate clasp

to the Air Crew Europe Star.

The General Service Medal 1918 – 1962

       The General Service Medal was instituted 19th January 1923.

These were issued for significant Army and Air force operations other than those in East, Central and West Africa,India or on the North West Frontier.

The Marines and Royal were issued The Naval General Service Medal 1915 – 1962 with similar yet not identical bars.
The form of the medal is a 36mm disc or coin in silver originally suspended on an ornate fixed suspender the medal and suspender have undergone some design changes over the periods not least of all the heads the reigning Monarchs  . it was never issued without a bar.  A standing, helmeted figure of Victory holding a trident in her left hand and placing a laurel wreath over the symbols of the Army and the Air Force with her right.
Seventeen bars were issued. The most recent to be authorized being “Canal Zone” which was instituted in 2003 for recognition for service in the “Suez canal zone” , 16th Oct ’51 –

19th Oct ’54 Impressed in sans-serif capitals for the Army, or machine engraved for the Royal Air Force.
